There are so many ways to enjoy the amazing experience of being pregnant. Yet, this contest won't be part of our own experience.

Visiting our Hospital / Visitando Nostro Ospedale

Here are a couple of photos from our hospital. Sunday we had a chance to visit the Memorial Hermann hospital during a brief tour... we saw some of the rooms, a couple of babies in the nursery, the waiting room, etc. We also go the inside scoop on how to score one of the 20 private rooms. There's only 5 semi-private rooms and we hope we never see one. Unfortunately, you can't "buy you way in" to a private room.

Ecco qualche foto dall'nostro ospedale. Domenica abbiamo visitato l'ospedale durante una visita guidata... abbiamo visto le camere, qualche neonato nell'isola neonatale, la sala per i parenti e amici, etc. Ci hanno anche dato qualche consiglio per ottenere una camera privata. Purtroppo, non si puo' pagare per garantire una camera privata.

Two days ago we found the cutest kids' products made by Not Neutral. We picked up a great little eating set for Peanut.

Due giorni fa' abbiamo trovato dei prodotti carini per bambini da Not Neutral. Abbiamo comprato un delizioso completo di piatti, coppe e posate per Nocciolino.

Pizza Time with the Dianos

The other night we had a chance to celebrate with Giovanni and Allison. After a long year, their house was finally finished. We enjoyed some pizza (courtesy of Pizza Hut) with three blind moose (the wine).

L'altra sera abbiamo avuto occasione di festeggiare con Giovanni e Allison. Dopo un anno, la loro casa era finita. Abbiamo goduto un po' di pizza (grazie alla "capanna di pizze") con tre alci ciece (il vino).

Yesterday we finally attended a childbirth class. Our hospital, Memorial Hermann, only had courses that lasted three weeks (three-and-a-half hours over three Saturdays) so we picked one at another hospital - Texas Women's - that lasted only one Saturday (but for eight hours).

Ieri siamo finalmente andati a un corso di preparazione alla nascita. Il nostro ospedale aveva solamente corsi che duravano per tre settimane (tre ore e mezzo per tre Sabati) e allora abbiamo scelto un corso da un'altro ospedale che durava solamente un Sabato (ma per otto ore).

There were about a dozen couples... all were new parents. In essence, they taught us four hours of content in eight hours... in part using various movies (quite graphic), stories and models of infants (like a baby inside a wool uterus!?). Some of it was beyond what I wanted to see given than I plan on staying "north of the equator".

C'erano una dozzina di coppie... tutti erano nuovi genitori. Ci hanno insegniato quattro ore di informazione in otto ore... in parte usando varii film (abbastanza espliciti), storie e modelli di neonati (come un bambino dentro un utero di lana!?)

The funniest parts were the various positions that one can use to alleviate pain during labor and the two breathing exercises. We couldn't stop laughing when the nurse demonstrated the various ways to breath while she played her CD of relaxing music. It's a miracle that she didn't punish us. She even suggested creating a playlist of music to have playing during labor, including a song you can play during the delivery to "send a special message to your child"!?

Le parti piu' divertenti erano le varie posizioni che si possono usare per alleviare dolore durante il parto e i due esercizi per respirare. Non abbiamo smesso di ridere quando l'infermiera dimostrava modi per respirare mentre suonava il suo disco di musica tranquilla. E' un miracolo che non' ci ha castigato.

At the end of the class, we did learn quite a few new things and now we feel more prepared for labor. I personally realize that sixteen hours of labor doesn't necessarily mean sixteen hours spent pushing and trying to deliver a baby. That was news to me. I thought labor = delivery. Next Sunday we'll be taking a tour of the hospital where "Peanut" will be born.

Alla fine del corso, abbiamo imparato varie cose e ci sentiamo piu' preparati per il parto. Prossima Domenica prendiamo una visita guidata del ospedale dove nascera' "Nocciolino".

Peanut Goes Back to the Doctor / Nocciolino Ritorna Al Dottore

Today we went back to the doctor for another ultrasound - she wanted to check Peanut's kidneys to check something that they noticed a week ago. Thank God, it appears that the problem is fixing itself. The pediatrician will check his kidneys after he's born but it seems like we won't have to worry.

Oggi siamo tornati dal dottore per un'altro ultrasuono - voleva guardare i reni di "Nocciolino" per controllare una cosa che avevano notato una settimana fa'. Grazie a Dio, appare che il problema si sta' correggendo. Il pediatrista controllera' i suoi reni dopo che e' nato ma pare che non ci dovremo preoccupare.

We found out that Peanut (or Walnut) weighs 5 pounds, 12 oz. We also saw part of his face but he was being a bit shy - he was hiding behind his arm.

Abbiamo scoperto che adesso "Nocciolino" (o Noce) pesa 2,6 kili. Abbiamo anche visto parte della sua faccia ma era po' timido - era nascosto dietro il suo braccio.

There is no doubt... it's a boy.

Non c'e' dubbio... e' un maschio.

After reviewing the ultrasound, the nurse said that if it wasn't a boy, said would quit her job.

Dopo che ha visto l'ultrasuono, la infermiera ha detto che se non era un maschio, avrebbe abbandonato il suo lavoro.

Another addition to the family

Since we're talking about children, congratulations to Giulia and Jose... my cousins in Spain. they just returned from Stavropol in Russia with Nikolai... what a cute kid!

Siccome stiamo parlando di bambini, congratulazioni a Giulia e Jose... i miei cugini in Spagna. Sono appena tornati con Nikolai da Stavropol in Russia ... che bel bimbo!

Big Boy is Indeed a BIG BOY! - Il Bambino e' Proprio Grande!

When we picked "bigboybrichford" as the name of this site, we had no idea just how big he was. Today we found out that "peanut" may we a walnut. 5.5 pounds! Selena is at 32 weeks but "peanut" is as big as a 35 week-old baby. He also has a head full of hair. Who knows... maybe he'll arrive before October 1st.

Quando abbiamo scelto"bigboybrichford" come il nome di questo sito ("bambino grande" Brichford), non avevamo idea quanto era grande. Oggi abbiamo scoperto che forse nocciolino e' una noce. 2,5 chilogrammi! Selena e' a 32 settimane ma nocciolino e' grande come un neonato di 35 settimane. Ha anche un testa piena di capelli. Chissa'... forse arrivera' prima del primo Ottobre.

We created this blog to provide our friends and relatives an easy way to get to know our "big boy"... over time, we'll keep you updated with pictures, news and other new stuff. I'll try to write in Italian and English so that everyone can understand... When I write (Michael), I know the Italian parts will be full of mistakes... better to practice now before I start teaching our language to "peanut".

Abbiamo creato questo sito cosi' la nostra famiglia e i nostri amici avranno un luogo per conoscere il nostro figlio. Vi avvertiremo con varie fotografie, notizie ed altre novita'. Cerchero' di scrivere in Italiano e Inglese cosi' tutti possono capire. Quando scrivo io (Michael), le parti Italiane saranno piene di sbagli... meglio che pratico prima che incomincio ad insegnare la nostra lingua a "nocciolino"
